Will of Christopher Lyndlay of Castley (Parish of Leathley), 1592-93.

In the name of God Amen, the eighte day of Octobre in the 34th yeare of the Raigne of our Soveraigne Ladye Elizabeth by the grace of God of Englande France and Irelande Quene Defender of the Fathe etc Anno Domini one thowsande fyve hundreth fourescore and twelve, I Christopher Lyndlay of Castley, within the parish of Leathlay and county of Yorke yoman beinge of the wholle mind and perfect memorie god be praysed therefore doe maike and ordaine this my present Testament contayninge therein my laste will in manner and forme that followethe.  First and principallie I give and bequeathe my soul to almightye God my maker and Jesus Christe my saviour and Redemmer and my bodie to be buriede within the churche or church yearde of the foresaide Leathley.  Item I give and bequeathe to Margaret my wyefe all my holle landes and tenementes which I have within the towen territories and feildes of the foresaide Castley unto such tyme as my sonne John shall come unto full age of twentye and fowere yeares to pay requite and discharge all suche debtes as I Christopher Lindley doe owe at the day of my death and also I will that the said John Lindley my sonne shall pay unto Elizabeth Lindley his sister and my daughter the some of fyfteene pondes of good and lawfull English money within one hoole year nexte after he shall soe accomplishe the foresaide 24 years and other fyfteene poundes of like English money within two hoole yeares nexte after the saide John my sonne shall enter unto that third parte which my mother nowe occupyethe for the therdes of the landes of my layte father John Lyndley of the foresaide Castley deceased and further my will is that yf the saide John my sonne shall deney and will nott pay the foresaide some of therye poundes unto his syster Elizabethe my daughter and my will is that the said Elizabeth to have the therd of all my holle landes and tenementes in Castley unto her and her heires for ever.  Item I will that John Hudlestonne my tenannt have all that therde parte or moytye of my landes and tenementes in Castley aforesaid, which he nowe occupyethe from the invention of the Crosse commonlie Sainte Helline Day nowe nexte ensueinge the date hereof unto the ende of twentye and one yeares, payinge therfore yearlie fortye shillinges at Pentecost and Sainte Martine the Bishoppe in winter unto Jennet Lyndley dureinge her lyfe and after her lyfe naturall unto the heires of the said Christopher Lyndley.  Item I give and bequeathe unto John Lyndley my sonne all my waines, coopes, plows, yockes, teames with all other thinges thereunto belonginge when he shall come and to the age of 24 yeares.  Item I give more unto the said John my sonne one great arke which standeth in the laithe or barne.  Item I give unto Elizabeth my doughter my cubberde provided alwaies that Margaret my wyef shall be not letted or hindered of her therdes of my hoole landes and tenementes in Castley for and dureinge her lyf natural.  All the reste of my goodes and cattels my debtes legacies and funeralls payde and discharged att the day of my buriall I give unto Margaret my wyefe whom I make my full and hollel executrixe of this my laste will and testament theis men being witnesses.  Thomas Parker my brother in law, John Hudlestonne, Christopher Hudlestonne and William Robertes.
